I was at my second home… I mean Aldi and I decided I had to share this easy meal with you guys since I was making it for a second time in about 3 weeks. Do you know what’s for dinner tonight? How about some Easy Philly Cheese Steak Sliders. 😉
Easy Philly Cheese Steak Sliders
I know… this isn’t the sweets I usually share, but it was Karate night so hence the need for an easy, quick meal. I’ve been on a slider kick lately… last week I made cheeseburger sliders. It’s just a nice and simple way to feed my family. You can customize them however you like to suit your tastes and they’re very shareable.
Just as a side note… my hats off to all the savory bloggers! Big time props for them prepping and photographing delicious foods. My pics are totally on the fly here so I hope that you can appreciate that my kitchen and my cookware are not beautiful and I had to stop to give my 18 month old a banana and to give him hugs a couple times. But we’ll just roll with it.
OK, on to the recipe. 😉
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a sheet pan with some foil. I gave it a light spray with a non-stick spray to keep the Hawaiian buns from sticking. Slice the buns in half. (Don’t separate them yet… keep all of them together.) Place the bottom of the rolls on the sheet pan and spread mayonnaise on both the bottom and top of the buns (this is optional of course).
Cook the onions until they’re a light golden color. Remove them from the pan and set them aside.
Now cook the steaks. Drain off any fat. Don’t forget to season them with a little salt and pepper or your favorite steak/burger seasoning.
Spread the cooked steak evenly over the bottom of the Hawaiian buns.
Top with the grilled onions… I only did half because my kids at this point are not yet fans.
Then top with some cheese slices. Bake without the tops for 5 to 10 minutes. This will depend on how melty your cheese is.
Finally, place the bun tops on and bake for another 5 minutes to warm and toast the buns a little.
Cut, serve, and enjoy!
Oh, and don’t forget your favorite chips or some fries!

*I made one and half times the recipe for my family as you can see by the photos. The recipe will make 12 sliders as it is written. Also my husband suggested that these can be served with a little mustard or dill pickle… this would just add a little tartness to the sweetness that comes from the roll and the grilled onions.
- 1- 12oz package (12 rolls) Hawaiian Sweet Rolls ( I used L'Oven Fresh)
- 1- 15oz package (6 steaks) Philly Beef Steaks (I used Steak-Eze)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- salt & pepper to taste (or your favorite steak/burger seasoning)
- 6 slices mozzarella or provolone cheese
- mayonnaise (optional)
- mustard & dill pickle (optional) *see note above recipe
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a sheet pan with foil. Spray the foil lightly with non-stick spray.
- Slice the rolls in half, lengthwise (don't break them apart), spread both sides with mayonnaise if you are using, and set the bottom part of the rolls on the sheet pan. Set aside.
- In a large saute pan over medium high heat, cook the onions until they're a light golden color. Season with a little salt and pepper if you like. Transfer the cooked onions to a plate or a bowl and set aside.
- In the same pan, cook the Philly steaks. Drain off any fat and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Spread the cooked steak evenly over the bottom of the rolls. Then put the onions over the steak.
- Next place the cheese slices over the sliders and put the pan of sliders in a preheated oven for 5 - 10 minutes or until the cheese is nice and melted.
- Once the cheese has melted, place the tops of the rolls on the sliders and put them back in the oven for another 5 minutes just to warm the tops of the rolls.
- Cut the rolls into individual sliders and enjoy!
